Perennial Holdings inks agreement to open two hospitals in Guangzhou

Pua Seck Guan, director chairman and chief executive officer of Perennial Holdings, states: “The RMB1 billion investment aligns with our tactical focus on healthcare-centric HSR transit-oriented developments (TODs), which function as enablers of our healthcare company, and notes our primary health care business foray into the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Location.”

The model, which was piloted at Perennial Holdings’ general hospital in Tianjin that commenced uses earlier on this year, offers convenience and cost competency to doctors and medical groups, the business adds.

The healthcare facilities are expected to develop Guangzhou as a “top health tourism spot”, drawing in high-net-worth prospects from the Asia Pacific area, assumes Pua.

Perennial Holdings has executed an agreement with Guangzhou Metro Group to lease roughly 105,000 sq ft of space and spend around RMB1 billion ($ 178.9 million) to launch 2 health centers in Guangzhou.

Currently, the team has 5 healthcare-centric TODs which are attached to HSR terminals, located in Tianjin, Chengdu, Kunming, Xi’an and Chongqing. Perennial Holdings owns, manages and handles over 25,000 beds in clinical and eldercare facilities, including 16,000 operational beds and 9,000 beds in the pipeline, throughout China and Singapore.

Located in the Southeast Tower of Yuesheng Plaza, this will be the first fully foreign-owned tertiary general hospital and specialist hospital in Guangzhou and Southern China. Both medical facilities will have an overall planned capacity of over 600 beds.

Both hospitals in Guangzhou are expected to be finished in July 2026, forming the very first phase of the Perennial Baiyun International Healthcare City. Under the collaboration arrangement between Perennial Holdings and the Guangzhou Baiyun District Government, the healthcare city is set to span over 1.18 sq kilometres at an approximated overall investment cost of RM5 billion. The Perennial Baiyun International Healthcare City is imagined to be a medical and wellness precinct integrating clinical, wellness, research, training, commercial and non commercial components, claims the group.

According to Perennial Holdings, both healthcare facilities will offer a shared medical centers and services concept that will enable medical professionals and clinical teams to operate on an asset-light basis, without needing to invest in clinical facilities and services. As an alternative, they will use centers provided and regulated by Perennial Holdings.

Meanwhile, Perennial Holdings is also set to create an integrated eldercare project in Guangzhou’s Huangpu District, which will feature a recovery hospital, nursing home and an eldercare home.
