Asia-Pacific Data Centre Association pushes for stronger sustainability frameworks
Steered by cloud fostering, electronic services and artificial intelligence (AI), local request for data hubs is projected to grow close to 20% each year through 2028. The International Energy Agency (IEA) anticipations that Southeast Asia’s information centre electricity use will almost double by 2030 compared to 2024– a trend mirrored throughout the bigger APAC region.
Developers are motivated to collaborate very closely with regulatory authorities and sector associates to establish constant energy performance standards across the APAC markets.
” Balancing energy sustainability with the rising request for electronic infrastructure is one of APAC’s defining challenges,” states Jeremy Deutsch, chair of APDCA. “With the ideal policy frameworks, Asia-Pacific governments can ensure that digital change advances hand in hand with net-zero ambitions.”
Titled Data Centres and Energy Sustainability: A Regional Perspective on Best Practices and Policy Frameworks, the paper was released on Oct 27 and outlines strategies to decrease the environmental influence of information centres whilst meeting the climbing demand for electronic structure in Asia-Pacific (APAC).
The white paper emphasize best methods to improve power performance across the information centre lifecycle– from spot choice, design and construction to operations and tracking. It additionally recommends policy steps to accelerate access to clean and renewable energy with stronger grid framework and Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs).
Amongst the examples presented is Singapore’s BCA-IMDA Green Mark for Data Centres (GMDC)– a qualification plan jointly developed by the Infocomm Media Growth Authority (IMDA) and the Building and Construction Authority (BCA) to recognise data facilities with strong sustainability efficiency and energy-efficient practices.
The APDCA participants include leading international providers, such as AirTrunk, Equinix, Digital Realty, ST Telemedia Global Data Centres, and Princeton Digital Group.
The Asia-Pacific Data Centre Association (APDCA) has released a new white paper calling for better regulation and sector partnership to improve power sustainability all over data centres in the region.
